The classic showbiz musical returns to rave reviews, directed by original book writer Arthur Laurents.

star:Patti LuPone
music:Jule Styne
lyricist:Stephen Sondheim
book:Arthur Laurents
choreographer:Jerome Robbins
director:Arthur Laurents

The show is set in the 1920's, following a stage mother and her daughter on the vaudeville burlesque circuit - the songs are legendary, and include: Let Me Entertain You, Some People, You'll Never Get Away from Me, If Momma Was Married, All I Need Is the Girl, Everything's Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Get A Gimmick and Together Wherever We Go.

Expect a rather traditional staging. Like most shows that transfer from City Center staged readings, it's more about the performances than the sets and costumes. The star certainly has her fervent partisans, many of whom were also put off by the most recent Broadway revival of the show - this production has been described by some as a last attempt by the original writers and creators of the show to get a solid, straightforward rendering on the boards and into theatrical memories.
